Carter Overtoom is a senior at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, KY, where he serves as Student Council President and leads the school’s FBLA chapter. A two-time national FBLA award winner, Carter placed 4th in Securities & Investments and 8th in Personal Finance. He also earned 1st place in Kentucky for The Stock Market Challenge and the investment essay competition. Deeply involved in school life, Carter holds multiple leadership positions and actively participates in various clubs. He is a Governor’s Scholars Program alumnus, an Eagle Scout, and currently interns at Central Bank. In addition to his academic and extracurricular achievements, Carter is the founder of Overtoom’s Odd Jobs and co-owner of LEX Mobile Car Detailing. He plans to double major in finance and accounting at the University of Kentucky, with the goal of becoming a financial advisor and, ultimately, a business teacher. Kentucky educators made a strong showing at the recent MBA Research Conclave in Columbus, Ohio. Teachers from across the nation had the opportunity to learn from and connect with their peers in highly sought-after workshops. Keynote speakers from business and industry, including Raising Cane's, Highlights for Children, the National Retail Federation, White Castle and American Express, shared their insights and expertise with attendees. To help Kentucky educators implement the valuable knowledge gained at the Conclave, resources from workshops and previous conferences will be made available in the MBA Research State's Connection under the Curriculum/Instruction section. Kentucky Business and Marketing Teacher Leaders present Congratulations to Reginald McDaniel Ed.D., MBA, from The Academy at Shawnee (Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS)), Danielle Wells from Eastern High School (JCPS) and Maria Machin from Eastern High School (JCPS) on their outstanding presentations at the MBA Research Conclave in Columbus, Ohio. These talented Kentucky business and marketing educators shared their expertise with teachers and administrators from across the country, showcasing the innovative and effective teaching methods happening in our state.r High School of Business at Eastern High School recognized The MBA Research Conclave celebrated the achievements of outstanding Kentucky educators Danielle Wells, Pam Amshoff and Maria Machin during the annual High School of Business (HSB) Awards Breakfast. The Eastern HSB program was recognized for its exceptional performance, with 50 plus students achieving top scores on the HSB exams. Machin was honored for her valuable contributions to the HSB Teacher Advisory Committee. Machin and Wells were acknowledged for their dedication and service as HSB National Trainers. Additionally, Wells received the prestigious 5-Year HSB Teacher award for their long-standing commitment to the program. While attending the Conclave, Amshoff successfully completed HSB training, further enhancing her ability to provide high-quality business education to students. Congratulations to the Eastern HSB program and all the dedicated educators who were recognized for their outstanding achievements! Industry certifications are evidence of skills or knowledge related to an occupation, industry or technology. Each year, the KDE Office of Career and Technical Education publishes a list of valid industry certifications that can be referenced by educators.
During the 2024 KACTE Summer Conference, an industry certification computer lab will be open to all business and marketing teachers. The lab will be equipped with the latest computers and software to experience valid certification exams. It will be staffed by an experienced technician who can provide assistance with any computer-related issues.
