Desktop publishing includes many different types of documents, including magazines, busines cards, newsletters, calendars, logos and flyers, just to name a few. Depending on your needs, software programs can vary widely, as shown below.

System Requirements/Recommendations

Even a basic computer can handle most desktop publishing programs, so there are no specific requirements. Many will recommend using a Mac for desktop publishing, however, Windows based computers have come a long way to meeting the needs of desktop publishers. Because files can be large in file size, a large hard drive is recommended, preferably 80 GB or larger. At least 2 GB of RAM is recommended, but you can never have too much.
