Using Adobe Premiere 1.5 Tutorial - Word | PDF
What You Need To Get Started
Regarding the hardware that you'll need to get started, you will need, at the minimum, the following:
- A digital video camera - You have two main choices when shopping for your video camera. The first option is a conventional video recorder that uses an 8 mm videotape. If using an 8mm digital camera, you will record your footage on a videotape, then use a Firewire cable to "capture" the video to your computer. Note that when using a firewire capture cord, your computer must be equipped with a Firewire card. The second option is to use a fully digital video camera. This camera contains a hard drive and all footage is recorded directly to the hard drive, then copied to your computer, typically through a USB connection.
- A tripod - In order to steady your shot and improve the quality of your footage, a tripod is highly recommended. Models will vary from standard tripods that only hold your camera to remote control tripods that can raise, lower and even turn on their own.
- Microphones - Microphones will also vary, depending on your needs. Wired microphones are the most common, and are typically used for "man in the street" interviews. Boom microphones can be purchased, or if funds are in short supply, you can create your own. Also handy are wireless mics which can be clipped to a subject's lapel, and finally, gun mics are available, which typically fit onto your camera and will pick up anything that is it aimed at.
